LOCAL CURRENCY?

THE ARMENIAN DRAM, AMD

Please note that you cannot pay for any goods or services in any foreign currency. Exchange rates are similar in banks and exchange offices throughout the city. The airport exchange rate is a bit weaker so it is best to change a less amount for your initial needs. Although banks accept most currencies it is advisable to bring US DOLLARS OR EUROS.

HOW DO I GET TO THE CITY CENTRE?

FROM ZVARTNOTS AIRPORT

TAXIS - 2 OPTIONS                   Yerevan Zvartnots Airport is only 12km away from the city centre.

1.  Taxi charges are around 2,500 AMD (Approx. 5 USD$) one way to the city centre. You are advised to use an official taxi with logos and a meter. There are many unofficial private taxis that will charge you more, so be aware of the standard rate. If needed, ask an airport official to arrange a taxi with the standard rate.

2.  Download the GG APP.  GG in Yerevan is the equivalent of Uber elsewhere. The cars are very clean, the drivers are polite and do not smoke in their vehicles. The rate is only slightly higher than normal taxis.

Make it clear where is your end destination as the rate should be the same anywhere in Yerevan.

BUS - 1 OPTION

THE ' Elite Bus ' http://elitebusarmenia.com/en/english-yerevan-zvartnots-airport/  Airport Express Transfer departs every 30 minutes from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm to the city centre. It costs 300 AMD per person one way. (approx. 0.65 USD$). The bus stops in a few places, tell the driver where is your end destination and he/she will guide you.

PLEASE NOTE: MAKE SURE TO PICK UP A TOURIST MAP BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE AIRPORT.

Where to stay?

HOTELS, GUEST HOUSES, HOSTELS...

Accommodation in Armenia is very affordable. From name brand hotels to local guest houses you can find a wide variety of comfortable lodging. You can look up the rankings at https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g293932-Yerevan-Hotels.html.

Our choice  is HOTEL MEG due to its warm environment, great location, super clean, excellent customer service and breakfast. It may be difficult to locate the building at first, but once you find the place you will not stay anywhere else.  Price is around 55$ per night including breakfast.

If you are on a tighter budge try ART GUEST HOUSE on Baghramyan Ave.  For 20$ per night it offers a comfortable lodging with breakfast included.  For more information visit https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293932-d12269676-Reviews-Art_Guesthouse_Yerevan-Yerevan.html

Yerevan city centre is quite small and can be walked quite comfortably. The city is bounded by an inner circular ring which is only 3km in diameter.

The cheapest and most convenient from of transport is the taxi. It costs 600 AMD anywhere in Yerevan up to 5km and then 100 AMD per km after. You can also download the GG APP as explained above which is similar to Uber.

If you want to get a taste of how the locals travel then be brave and take the old bus called "Marshrutka." For 100 AMD  you can travel one way anywhere in the city. You can pick one up almost anywhere.

Yerevan Metro is also available, although not frequented much by tourists, due to its limited lines. It costs 100 AMD for a one way trip and runs north to south inside the city centre.
